Amal Mohamed Nasrullah Abdel-Hakim is a teenager in Melbourne who's been "whacked with some seriously confusing identity hyphens." Amal decides to wear the hijab (headscarf) as a symbol of her Muslim faith. The hijab changes the way others see her, from her prep school classmates to her extended family, and it changes the way she sees herself.
