The City of Phoenix is working hard to re-open Burton Barr Central Library. The library is closed until summer of 2018, but you can visit any of the other 16 Phoenix Public Library locations or contact Ask Us for your library needs.

This blog will publish progress updates and news about the library's restoration.

Since our last update in regards to the restoration efforts at Burton Barr Central Library, a lot of work has been done behind the scenes. While construction projects progress within the building, ensuring key library services continue at other Phoenix Public Library locations temporarily, and with partners and community collaborators within Central Phoenix remains our priority.

Active restoration work is underway at Burton Barr Central Library. Insulation replacement in the walls and ceilings, wall taping and texturing, floor prep for carpet and dry wall installation are part of the ongoing construction efforts for floors 1-4. It is anticipated that work will begin on the roof and 5th floor fire suppression system before the end of the year.

Library outreach efforts with our neighbors has been underway, Burton Barr Central Library staff and expertise have delivered services such as FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) guidance, College Test Prep, Robotics programs, "Bookface Friday", Seed Library, computer classes in English and Spanish, Library 101, issuing library cards, and so much more is being offered at locations such as North High School, Heard Museum, Phoenix Art Museum, Genesis Academy, and Bret Tarver Learning Center to name a few. For specific dates and times as to where you can find Phoenix Public Library services at Central Phoenix locations, please check our Programming Updates for Burton Barr Central Library page.
