​Foundation and Grants Collection

As a cooperating collection of The Foundation Center in New York City, the library has information on more than 95,000 private foundations and corporate donors in the United States and 1.3 million grants.  The collection also includes materials on government funding, proposal writing, fundraising and nonprofit management.
Materials in the library's reference collection cannot be checked out, but are available for use in the building. Books include:
Foundation Directory features key facts about the nationals top 10,000 foundations.
Foundation Center's Guide to Proposal Writing provides detailed instructions on preparing successful proposals, including pre-proposal planning tips, the components of a proposal, and guidance from grantmakers.  Incorporating results from 40 interviews with grantmakers across the nation, the Guide reveals their priorities in reviewing submissions and provides insight into what makes a winning proposal.
Foundation Fundamentals offers an introduction to the world of foundations and the full array of online and print resources available to help grantseekers develop prospect lists.
Guide to Funding International and Foreign Programs provides more than 1,900 descriptions of grantmakers that support international relief, conferences, disaster assistance, human rights, civil liberties, community development, education and more.

National Directory of Corporate Giving features the most comprehensive information available to grants from more than 4,100 companies, including samples of more than 9,000 grants.

Foundation Grants to Individuals includes more than 7,000 entries packed with information on foundations that award grants directly to individuals.

Several electronic resources are available from any of the public computers at Burton Barr Central Library.  These include:
Foundation Directory Online Professional - provides extensive program details for leading foundations, application guidelines, and sponsoring company information for corporate givers.
Foundation Grants to Individuals Online - contains nearly 8,000 foundation and public charity programs funding students, artists, researchers, and other individual grant seekers.
Arizona Guide to Grants and Giving - offers information on corporate and foundation resources for Arizona grant seekers.
Philanthropy In/Sight - an interactive mapping tool that enables you to map grantmakers or grants in order to discover patterns of giving, funding relationships, areas where philanthropy has made an impact, and areas where opportunities exist to fill critical needs.​
