It's easy to start using Greater Phoenix Digital Library

Getting Started

You'll need your Phoenix Public Library card and a computer or device with an Internet connection. Don't have a library card? Get one today. Learn all about using Greater Phoenix Digital Library with your device here. ​

 
When you are signing into your account, you will enter your library card number and password. (This is the password connected to your library card account - read more.) Be sure to sign in first to see everything that is available to you as a Phoenix Public Library cardholder.

​Browse & Check Out in the Greater Phoenix Digital Library

  • Browse or search for a title. Once you have made your selection, click "Borrow."
  • Borrowed titles will appear on your Bookshelf under your Account.
  • Each cardholder may check out up to 10 titles at a time.

Checkout Periods

You may use the default lending periods for each format, or choose a lending period within that format. (The default lending periods are listed in bold.)

  • eBooks: 7 days/14 days
  • Audiobooks: 7 days/14 days
  • Movies and videos: 3 days/5 days/7 days
  • Music albums: 3 days/5 days/7 days/14 days


Recommending A Title

​​Can't find what you're looking for?  Did you know that you can recommend a title for purchase in the Greater Phoenix Digital Library?

Suggesting a Title

  1. After you search for something in the Greater Phoenix Digital Library collection, click or tap the Don't see the digital titles you were hoping to find? box or select Additional Titles to Recommend in the search filters. 
  2. To recommend a title, mouse over it (or tap it, on a mobile device) and select the Recommend button. 
  3. When you select Recommend, a new page will open where you can choose to be notified or placed on the holds list if the library purchases the title. 
  4. You can view a list of titles you've recommended under your Account > Lists > Titles you recommended.

​To Read, Listen or Watch in your internet browser

To use your titles without an app or software, you'll need to choose the Overdrive READ format for eBooks, the LISTEN format for eAudiobooks and the STREAMING VIDEO format for eVideos. Once you've selected your format, click Get Title (from the Library website) and your title will open directly in your browser. ​ Be sure your browser will allow pop-ups​. Click here for more info. 

Setting up to download

Set-up instructions depend on how you will use the service. Data rates may apply on mobile devices. We suggest using a WiFi connection.​

Using a personal computer (Windows or Mac) to borrow titles with one click:

  1. Go to the Greater Phoenix Digital Library​.
  2. Click "Sign In." Select "Phoenix Public Library." Enter your Phoenix Public Library card number When you are signing into your account, you will enter your library card number and password. (This is the password connected to your library card account - read more.)
  3. You may start reading a borrowed eBook right in your browser using OverDrive Read (if available)—no extra software or login required.
  4. Simply click Read next to a borrowed eBook to begin reading.



Using a tablet, smartphone or mobile device (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, Android phone or tablet):

  • Go to the Apple App or Google Play stores to download the free Overdrive™ app. (Use this app to download EPUB eBooks and MP3 audiobooks.)
  • Use the app's Add a Library feature to find and save Phoenix Public Library’s OverDrive site.
  • Once in the app, click "Sign In" and choose "Phoenix Public Library." Enter your library card number andpassword. (This is the password connected​ to your library card account - read more​.)
  • The app can be used to read eBooks, stream videos, audiobooks and music. You may start reading a borrowed eBook right in your browser using OverDrive Read (if available)—no extra software or login required.
  • Simply click Read next to a borrowed eBook to begin reading.​
  • To download Epubs, you'll need to create an Overdrive account so that your materials can be synced across devices. 

Download other formats to your computer, tablet, or smartphone:

On Windows or Mac:

  1. Use free Adobe® Digital Editions software to read EPUB and PDF eBooks on your computer and transfer them to supported eBook readers*.
  2. Use free OverDrive Media Console software to listen to audiobooks on your computer and transfer them to supported MP3 players. Windows users can also use OMC to download music and video.
  3. On Windows 8 or RT: Use OverDrive Media Console for Windows 8​ to download EPUB eBooks* and MP3 audiobooks.
*Using Ad​obe Digital Editions requires an Adobe ID. You may obtain an Adobe ID by setting up a free user account that will give you access to digitally-protected eBooks and let you read them on multiple devices. E​ach device must be authorized with the same Adobe ID. If you don't have an Adobe ID, you can create one when you install Adobe Digital Editions on a computer​.

For Kindle Books:

You can download Kindle Books to your Kindle device or reading app. If you select the Kindle Book option, you'll be taken to Amazon's website to complete download.​

 

eCard Accounts

​​Have you changed your eCard to a regular Library Card? ​You will need to merge your eCard and library card accounts to retain access to any borrowed items or holds.  To merge your accounts,contact Overdrive via email with both card numbers.  If you do not have both card numbers, contact Library Staff.​ ​
