Government Documents

The Phoenix Public Library is a Federal Depository Library.

The Government Documents area of the Phoenix Public Library is located on the second floor of the Central Library. The Federal Depository Library Program was established to ensure that the American public has access to information produced by the federal government. This special status allows the library to receive information from the various agencies of the federal government. The Phoenix Public Library is proud to be one of 1,400 federal depository libraries in the country, making this information link from agencies and the Congress of the United States with the citizens of Phoenix since 1917. Free access to the wealth of information in this dynamic collection is available on paper and electronically through CD-ROMs and the Internet.

Topics range from the Apache National Forest to zoology. Examples of other subjects covered include military history, NASA and space exploration, national parks, exporting, the federal budget, nutrition, health and health care, Social Security, education, small business, anthropology, criminal justice, countries of the world, the environment, the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian, savings bonds, hurricanes, volcanoes and American history as it is happening.

Congressional publications, laws, regulations, hearings and bills are available in paper and online, including The Code of Federal Regulations, Federal Register, Congressional Record, Statutes at Large and US Supreme Court Reports.

Statistical publications from many agencies cover topics such as the US Census, business economics, consumer price index, health, crime, energy, education and transportation.
