Bad news Bears [videorecording] / Paramount Pictures presents a Media Talent Group production in association with Detour Filmproduction, a Richard Linklater film ; produced by J. Geyer Kosinksi, Richard Linklater ; screenplay by Bill Lancaster and Glenn Ficarra & John Requa ; directed by Richard Linklater.
Morris Buttermaker is an alcoholic pest removal worker and for a very short period of time a former professional baseball player, is recruited to coach and train a failing baseball team. All of these twelve-year-olds have been thrown out of the league. After losing every game they have played in so far, the kids force the coach to straighten up and teach them how to win before the season is over.
MPAA rating: PG-13; for rude behavior, language throughout, some sexuality and thematic elements.
Based upon the film written by Bill Lancaster.
Special features: Director's commentary; deleted scenes & hilarious outtakes; featurettes; video baseball cards.
Director of photography, Rogier Stoffers ; editor, Sandra Adair ; original music, Edward Shearmur ; costume designer, Karen Patch ; production designer, Bruce Curtis.
Billy Bob Thornton, Greg Kinnear, Marcia Gay Harden.
DVD, region 1, widescreen presentation; Dolby Digital.
Consensus: This too-faithful remake aims low for laughs, turning off the easily offendable; despite another lovably irascible contribution by Thornton, it lacks the ensemble strength and originality of the 1976 version.
