Lantern slides of the Bartlett Heard Land and Cattle Company; Phoenix and the surrounding areas; the greater Southwest, particularly the Native Peoples and their cultures in Arizona and New Mexico; as well as images of their trip to Egypt and the Sudan. The collection also contains an assortment of slides from Mexico, Wyoming, the Mohave Indians of California, and the Plains peoples. Many of the slides of the Family's travels and the Heard ranch and surrounding lands were taken by the Heard family, then reproduced by commercial lantern slide companies. When known the slides taken by Heard are identified. Some photographs made by commercial photographers. These glass lantern slides were collected by the Heards between 1895 and 1930s.

Arrangement: when possible, the slides are in original order. Slides that could not be placed in original order are arranged topically.

Patrons must obtain written permission to reproduce or publish photographs of the Heard Museum's holdings. Images must be reproduced in accordance with the policy of Heard Museum and under its guidelines. The Heard Museum reserves the right to refuse reproduction of its holdings and to impose such conditions as it may deem advisable in its sole and absolute discretion in the best interests of the museum.
