Christy Puetz creates figurative works using beads, carving, fabric and collected objects. Inspired by her interest in world cultures and the use of beads in ritual and ceremony Puetz's whimsical doll-like figures and cloth head pieces or 'helmets' explore the human need for ritual, protection and myth. Puetz graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus in Fiber Arts from the University of North Dakota in 1993. She is currently the Director of Education and Community Outreach at the Bead Museum in Glendale Arizona. She was selected to complete an Artist Initiative Temporary Public Art Project in 2005 and has participated in several artist in residence programs locally.
