Through a Geologist's Lens: The Grand Canyon
 
Lasting Light: 125 Years of Grand Canyon Photography
 
Phoenix Public Library will host the national debut of "Lasting Light: 125 Years of Grand Canyon Photography" Jan. 10 - March 29, 2009. Covering nearly 125 years of photographic history, the exhibit features 60 photographs by a host of well-known photographers.

Lasting Light: 125 Years of Grand Canyon Photography was created by the Grand Canyon Association and organized for travel by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service. The exhibit is sponsored locally by the Phoenix Public Library Foundation with media support from Arizona Highways Magazine.

Geologist and aerial photographer Michael Collier will present his unique perspective on landscape photography. This program should appeal to anyone who flies, who is interested in photography or who loves landscapes.

Collier received a B.S. in geology at Northern Arizona University, an M.S. in structural geology at Stanford University, and an M.D. degree from the University of Arizona. He has published books about the mountains of Arizona and the geology of Grand Canyon, Death Valley, Denali and Capitol Reef National Parks, the Colorado River basin and the glaciers of Alaska. His photographs have been exhibited in museums across the country. He has been photographing from the air for more than 30 years.
