Pulliam Auditorium on 1st Floor "Two Spirits", a PBS Independent Lens award-winning documentary, explores the life and death of Native American teen Fred Martinez. A boy who was also a girl, Martinez was nádleehí, or Two Spirit, a male-bodied person with a feminine nature – a special gift according to Navajo culture. He also became one of the youngest hate-crime victims in modern history. Arizona Senator Jack Jackson Jr. will introduce the event. A discussion with filmmaker Lydia Nibley will follow.
