Q: How large is the quilt? A: The size of the quilt is 93 3/4 x 110 1/2 inches, on which 16 blocks of assorted sizes are appliqu�d.
Q: How many different types of fabric were used in the quilt?
A: A total of 102 fabrics were used to create the 240 strips of fabric that were sewn together to form a background. Buildings, cactus and blocks then were hand appliqu�d to the background.
Section1: The sky comprises 26 fabrics and 74 strips of one-inch width.
Section 2: The mountain-to-building foreground comprises 37 fabrics and 57 strips of 1-1/4 inch width.
Section 3: The mountain and cactus foreground comprises 26 fabrics and 69 strips of 1-3/8 inch width.
Q: How did you create the recessed look on your slogan "From Frontier to Future" on the quilt's borders?
A: The lettering on the borders is reverse appliqu�.
Q: What type of batting was used in the quilt?
A: Hobbs Heirloom batting was used.
Q: How were the quilt stitching patterns designed?
A: Quilting patterns for stitching are from materials provided by the Phoenix Arts Commission, library staff and photographs taken along the freeway.
