Volunteering
From assisting with programs, shelving, mending and jacketing books to a variety of other library tasks, volunteers play an integral role in the daily operation of Burton Barr Central Library and all branch libraries.
Applications for volunteer work are available at all library locations. See Locations for the library in your area. The minimum age for applicants is 14 years old. A screening interview will be held with the Volunteer Coordinator at the library of your choice who will match your interests and available hours with the library's needs.
The First Five Years/Los Primeros Cinco Anos
Help children get ready to read! The Burton Barr Central Library is recruiting volunteers to serve as Early Literacy Coaches in a bilingual space for children age birth to five and their families. We are looking for committed individuals, who enjoy working with infants, toddlers, or preschoolers and their families, that can contribute a minimum of 2 shifts per month. A background in early childhood development/education and customer service skills desirable. Spanish speaker a plus. Training will be provided. For more information contact Jennifer Jakelis.
Teen Summer Volunteer Program
This program recruits and trains teen volunteers to assist library staff and the public during the Summer Reading Program. It provides teens 12 to 17 years old with confidence-building experience that develops practical job skills and good customer/public service attitudes. Printable applications are available online or can be picked up at any Phoenix Public Library location.
