WHAT: Grade One at the Library Reception Celebrates Nine Years
Grade One At the Library (GOAL) will celebrate nearly a decade of issuing library cards to Phoenix first graders during a reception for schools that have 100 percent participation, meaning every first-grade class is participating in the program. The reception will honor pupils, teachers and principals from more than 130 elementary schools. The schools will receive a gift copy of "Dr. Bird to the Rescue." The book's illustrator, Kevin Kibsey, will present a program during the reception.

The Phoenix Public Library Foundation received a grant from Target to support GOAL during the 2006-07 school year. Since the program's inception nine years ago, Phoenix Public Library has issued library cards to 131,000 first-graders. The earliest recipients are currently high-school freshmen.
