Phoenix Public Library offers a variety of resources and services to help you be better prepared for your job search, including:

  • resume writing
  • interviewing skills
  • computer skills
  • job skill development

Every Phoenix Public Library location has staff to help you access these job help resources. Three of our locations have also been designated job help hubs. These locations provide workshops on topics related to finding a job or improving your skills to help you find a better job.

LearningExpressLibrary

For Workplace Skills Improvement:
  • Log in with your library card.
  • On the left side of the page, scroll down to and click on "Workplace Skills Improvement."
  • Click on "Job Search, Resumes and Interviewing." 
  • Each of these links, "Job Search and Networking Skills," "Creating Great Resumes and Cover Letters," "Interviewing and Success on the Job," will take you to a series of eBooks from which to choose.
  • You can access an eBook of your choice by clicking on the green plus sign on the right side of the page.
  • To download and read the eBook, you must create a LearningExpressLibrary account or log into an already-existing account.  This account is separate from your library card account.
  • Once you've added an eBook to your account, you may download it to your computer and begin reading it.

For Occupation Practice Tests:

  • Log in with your library card.
  • On the left side of the page, scroll down to and click on "Occupation Practice Tests."
  • Choose from this list of test types including: Air Traffic Controller, Civil Service, Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Electrical, Emergency Medical Services, Fire Fighter, Green Careers, Law Enforcement, Military, Nursing and Allied Health, Legal, Plumbing, Real Estate, Teaching, Test-Taking Skills Improvement, and WorkKeys Preparation.
  • Once you've made your selection, access the eBook or practice test by clicking on the green plus sign on the right side of the page.
  • You must create a LearningExpressLibrary account or log into an already-existing account.  This account is separate from your library card account.
  • Once you've added the item to your account, you may download the eBook to your computer or begin taking the practice test.

For Computer & Internet Basics:

  • Log in with your library card.
  • On the left side of the page, scroll down to and click on "Computer & Internet Basics."
  • Choose "Getting Started with Computers" or "Getting Started with the Internet."
  • Choose a video tutorial in which you are interested by clicking on the green plus sign on the right side of the page.
  • You must create a LearningExpressLibrary account or log into an already-existing account.  This account is separate from your library card account.
  • Once the video tutorial is added to your account, you may begin viewing it.


Ferguson's Career Guidance Centers

For Job Profiles:

  • Log in with your library card.
  • On the left side of the page, under "Job and Industry Profiles," choose from "Fastest Growing Jobs," "Highest Paying Jobs" or "Most In-Demand Jobs."  If you want to see all profiles, click on "Browse All Job and Industry Profiles."
  • Click on a job type to read a detailed profile of that job.
  • For information on jobs of that type available near you, click on the "Find Jobs" tab. 
  • Enter your location information to find jobs in your area.
  • You may save this information to "Your Folder." You can use this feature as a Guest or you can set up an account with Ferguson's Career Guidance Centers.  This account is separate from your library card account.
  • You may also print or email the information.

For Job-Hunting and Workplace Skills:

  • Log in with your library card.
  • On the middle of the page, under "Job-Hunting and Workplace Skills," choose from "Cover Letters," "Resumes" or "Interviewing." If you want to see all skills, click on "Browse All Job-Hunting and Workplace Skills."
  • You will then be taken to more detailed information on the skill you have chosen. If you browse all, you will have a larger list of skills from which to choose.  After making your selection, you will be directed to more detailed information.
  • You may save this information to "Your Folder." You can use this feature as a Guest or you can set up an account with Ferguson's Career Guidance Centers.  This account is separate from your library card account.
  • Look for the additional resources listed on the right side of the page for videos and other resources on that topic.
  • You may also print or email the information.

For Career and Industry Resources:

  • Log in with your library card.
  • On the right side of the page, under "Career and Industry Resources," choose from "Apprenticeships," "Internships and Summer Jobs" or "Industry Resources." If you want to see all the topics, click on "Browse All Career and Industry Resources."
  • You will then be taken to lists of featured articles and/or directories on the topic. If you chose browse all, you will have a larger list of resources by type from which to choose. After making your selection, you will be directed to more detailed information.
  • You may then save articles to "Your Folder." You can use this feature as a Guest or you can set up an account with Ferguson's Career Guidance Centers.  This account is separate from your library card account.
  • You may also print or email the information.
