What is Interlibrary Loan?
Interlibrary Loan is a service that allows Phoenix Public Library cardholders to borrow materials not owned by the Phoenix Public Library system
Who can use Interlibrary Loan?
Anyone with a current Phoenix Public Library card and less than $25 in fees can place an interlibrary loan request.
What types of materials can I request through Interlibrary Loan?
You can request books, copies of articles and microfilm. Books published within the past year, VHS tapes, DVDs and CDs (including audiobooks) are not available through this service.
How do I place a request?
Requests can be placed any time on the Phoenix Public Library website (www.phoenixpubliclibrary.org) from your home, office or at any Phoenix Public Library location. Click on Interlibrary Loan under the Helpful Links heading on the Library website home page. Select "place a request online" near the middle of the page. Then log into your interlibrary loan account using your library card number and last name. If you do not already have an account, click on the "First Time Users" link to complete the quick and easy registration form.
After logging in, you will see the Illiad Main Menu screen. Under "Requests" click on the type of item you would like to request; book, photocopy, etc. This will take you to the appropriate request form. Just fill out the request form, making sure to include information in the "Required" fields and submit.
How many requests can I have in at one time?
You can have six (6) active requests at one time. Active requests include those requests in the searching process as well as those that have arrived and are in your possession.
How long does it take to get materials through Interlibrary Loan?
A minimum of seven to eight weeks. The actual length of time depends on a number of factors. We process interlibrary loan requests in the order in which they are received. If there is a high volume of requests, it will increase the amount of time before your request is sent out to lending libraries. Also, if we have to go to twelve libraries, for example, before one will agree to lend an item, and that library is in New York, it would certainly take longer than if the first library we ask agrees to loan it and they are a library in the county or state.
How much does Interlibrary Loan cost?
Phoenix Public Library does not charge for interlibrary loan services and is able to fill most requests through other non-charging libraries. Some libraries, however, do charge fees of $15 or more. These costs are passed on to the borrower.
What is the fine for overdue interlibrary loan items?
The fine for overdue interlibrary loan items is .20 per item, per day.
Customers who have interlibrary loan items that are 30 days or more overdue will not be able to check out or renew Phoenix Public Library materials. Further, customers who have interlibrary loan items that are 30 days or more overdue will have their interlibrary loan privileges suspended for six months.
What happens if I lose or damage my interlibrary loan item?
If you lose or damage an interlibrary loan item, you will be responsible for paying any charges made by the lending library.
What is the check out period for interlibrary loan items?
ILLiad automatically calculates the due date based on the due date assigned by the loaning library, which varies. This means that you could pick up two interlibrary loan items on the same day and each item would have a different due date. Each item will have the due date printed clearly on the affixed white label.
How can I check the status of my interlibrary loan requests?
You can check the status of your interlibrary loan requests at any time on the Phoenix Public Library website (www.phoenixpubliclibrary.org), from your home, office or any Phoenix Public Library location. Click on Interlibrary Loan under the Helpful Links heading on the Library website home page. Select "Interlibrary Loan Login" from the column on the left-hand side of the page. Then log into your interlibrary loan account using your library card number and last name. Select "Review my Requests" from the ILLiad Main Menu screen.
How will I be notified that my materials are ready for pick up?
When you set up your Interlibrary Loan account, you will be asked how you prefer to receive notification from Interlibrary Loan. You have the option of being notified by email or by phone.
How do I submit interlibrary loan requests from WorldCat?
OCLC FirstSearch WorldCat has a "Request" button that will display in each record. If you would like to request that item through interlibrary loan, click the "Request" button. This will take you to the Interlibrary Loan - ILLiad login screen. After you enter your library card number and last name to log in, you will see a request form with all the information filled out from the record in WorldCat. All you have to do is click on the "Submit" button.
When you are logged on to your interlibrary loan account, you will find a link to WorldCat on the ILLiad Main Menu page under "Search Databases to Find Items."
