Phoenix Public Library, Phoenix, AZ. -- August 29, 2012 -- Burton Barr Central Library at 1221 N. Central Ave. will host 5 free programs in celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month. Programs include:

Phoenix History with Frank Barrios
6 - 8 p.m. - Thursday, September 20
Author and community historian Barrios shares stories from his book "Mexicans in Phoenix."

Música de las Américas with La Familia Guerrero
6 - 8 p.m. - Thursday, October 4
Embark on a musical journey through Latin America with the Guerrero family.

Día de los Muertos: Storytelling with Zarco
6 - 8 p.m. - Thursday, October 18
Through his unique masked characters, playwright Zarco explores the humor and sadness of life.

Día de los Muertos: Family Craft Day
2 - 4 p.m. - Saturday, October 20
Bring the kids to make paper-mache skulls in honor of the "Day of the Dead."

Día de los Muertos: Mask Making with Emily Costello and Zarco
1 - 3 p.m. - Sunday, October 28
Families are invited to create masks from paper using simple folding and cutting techniques.

Observed annually from September 15 to October 15, National Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the histories, cultures and contributions of Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
