Phoenix Public Library, Phoenix, AZ. -- August 03, 2009 -- Burton Barr Central Library is seeking proposals for artist-made altars inspired by Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) for its @Central Gallery, located on the first floor at 1221 N. Central Ave. Proposals are being accepted from Arizona residents, 18 years or older. The tenth annual "Día de los Muertos" exhibit will run Oct. 26 - Nov. 7.

Artists are asked to submit a brief written description (200 words or less) of their proposed altar. Photographs and/or sketches may be included. Altars must be freestanding and no larger than 3 feet by 4 feet by 8½ feet.

While non-traditional altars will be considered, all altars submitted should reflect the theme and traditions of Día de los Muertos. Artists should be ready to install their altar on Saturday, Oct. 24. The submission fee is $5. Deadline for submission is Sept. 11.
