Phoenix Public Library, Phoenix, AZ. -- July 20, 2009 -- Phoenix Public Library will offer free monthly literacy screenings for first through third graders, ages 6 - 10, at four locations beginning Aug. 1. The screenings will determine children's reading levels and test for reading problems. Suggested learning activities, materials and referral information will be provided to parents to help children who are not reading at grade level.

Schedule:

• Burton Barr Central Library, 1221 N. Central Ave.

  9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month Aug. 2009 - July 2010

• Mesquite Library, 4525 Paradise Village Parkway North

  9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month Aug. 2009 - July 2010

• Cesar Chavez Library, 3635 W. Baseline Road

  9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. on the third Saturday of each month Aug. 2009 - July 2010

• Cholla Library, 10050 Metro Parkway East

  9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. on the fourth Saturday of each month Aug. 2009 - July 2010

The free screenings are sponsored by Season for Sharing/The Arizona Republic and 12 News and presented in partnership with Arizona Literacy & Learning Center. Registration is not required, but space is limited.
