The City of Phoenix is working hard to re-open Burton Barr Central Library. The library is closed until summer of 2018, but you can visit any of the other 16 Phoenix Public Library locations and Phoenix Public Library @ Park Central or contact Ask Us for your library needs.

This blog will publish progress updates and news about the library's restoration.

We remain on schedule with restoration on floors 1 through 4. This includes replacing drywall, plaster, wood paneling, flooring, and carpet plus data cabling and electrical upgrades.  Construction for the replacement of the 5th floor fire suppression system has also begun and roof replacement will begin in early March.  We continue to anticipate Burton Barr Central Library will reopen to the public in early summer 2018.

In the meantime, Phoenix Public Library customers in central Phoenix may access a full host of library services at Phoenix Public Library @ Park Central. This temporary location is a 30,000 square foot space which offers approximately 50,000 items for checkout, almost 40 computers with free internet access, and a wide range of programing for all ages. We plan to close our operation at Park Central when Burton Barr is ready to reopen. As we get closer to early summer, more specific details and schedules regarding library openings and closings at these two locations will be confirmed and released.
