Born William James Murray in 1950, this American actor and comedian rose up through the ranks from his native Chicago's Second City, to Saturday Night Live and then with his entrance in the movies. Known primarily for his comedy, Murray has also gotten attention for his more serious roles in recent years. One of his most famous, as a has-been American actor stuck in Tokyo for ad work in Sofia Coppola's film Lost in Translation, earned him his first Academy Award nomination. Murray is an avid golfer and a member of a large Irish-Catholic family. His brothers John, Joel and Brian-Doyle Murray often appear in his films.
