Workshops & Events


College Depot at Burton Barr Central Library provides free year-round programming targeting various topics of the college planning process such as creating a college timeline, preparing scholarship essays, and applying for financial aid. ​

During the academic school year:
Workshops on various topics including college exploration, financial aid, scholarship searching, and more are presented free of charge and open to the public. Registration is required for some programs as seating might be limited.

Drop-in Assistance 
Receive basic assistance with various elements of the college admissions and financial aid process. Assistance includes help with FAFSA updates, scholarship searches, "To Do" student portal tasks, and more. Assistance is on a first-come, first-served basis. FAFSA Assistance 
FAFSA Assistance is provided to students and their families through specialized programming to assist with the FAFSA application and creating FSA IDs through hands-on small groups and workshop sessions during the peak financial aid season. Registration is required for some programs as seating might be limited. 

​​reEngage Phoenix Advising Sessions 
reEngage Phoenix Advising Sessions ​offer students who need their high school diplomas or GEDs a chance to get personalized help from staff who will be available to provide information to youth and adults who have not completed high school and de​​​sire to continue their education. Assistance includes help finding GED preparation sites, alternative high schools, and adult online high schools. See a list of times for March ReEngage Phoenix Advising Sessions, here. During the summer:

Free Summer Camps for students entering 8th-12th grades are offered every summer.  Students will meet and spend time with their peers, and learn valuable information about various topics including college preparation, college exploration, financial aid, scholarship searching, and more. They will also hear from guest speakers, play games, and have fun! College Depot will provide snacks. Registration is required as seating might be limited. Dates and times for each summer camp should be available by April of 2018.

College Depot Outreach Request: 
If you are part of an educational organization and would like College Depot to present to or otherwise contribute to one of your organization's events, please fill out this request formCollege Depot supports our community partners and we will make our staff available for education related events when possible. ​This session provides high school counselors, teachers and youth service providers with first-hand information from apprenticeship programs in the Valley. Representatives will discus debt-free career pathways that lead youth to long-term, gainful employment in a variety of high growth industries. Register here.

Are you still unsure about which career options are available to you? Would you like a career training option where you get paid from day one and graduate debt-free? High school seniors and their parents are invited to learn about apprenticeship programs at this Apprenticeship Showcase. This info session will have representatives from a variety of industries offering apprenticeship options that provide high wage, high-demand employment opportunities in a short period of time without the need to take out student loans. Pizza will be provided!

Apprenticeship programs are growing beyond the traditional manufacturing and construction industries and can now be pursued in healthcare, energy, information technology, and transportation industries. With an apprenticeship, students can gain hands-on training with the potential of earning college credits. In some cases, these classes may be paid for by employers. College Depot at Phoenix Public Library is proud to offer personalized advice and guidance to those interested in pursuing learning, education, and employment possibilities through an apprenticeship.
