The gallery's mission is to showcase a wide diversity of creative expression and create an opportunity for artists to exhibit and gain recognition in the community. Stop by to see the </span><em style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;background-color:#ffffff;color:#333333;font-size:14px;box-sizing:border-box;">papel picado</em><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;background-color:#ffffff;color:#333333;font-size:14px;"> and </span><em style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;background-color:#ffffff;color:#333333;font-size:14px;box-sizing:border-box;">nichos </em><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;background-color:#ffffff;color:#333333;font-size:14px;">in @Central Gallery, and visit the community altar to write messages to loved ones. Search for clues in a <strong>scavenger hunt</strong> that will lead to other displays and surprises around the library. Join library staff and create your own Día de los Muertos Ofrenda Nicho Box during an Adult Craft Workshop hosted in MACH1. A nicho box, or simply 'nicho' is a three-dimensional display box decorated to commemorate a person, event, or pet that has died. It can serve as a portable shrine for an important figure or loved one. They are often part of a larger ofrenda, which is an altar or offering that is created by families to honor their departed loved ones during this holiday. Even a small altar holds great significance, as it allows you to honor and remember your loved ones who have passed away. Participants will receive an informational handout that delves into some of the history of this tradition.<br></p><p>Cigar boxes and decorations will be provided while supplies last. Colorful papers, paint, beads, lace, ribbon, metallic foils, modeling clay, and more! Participants are encouraged to bring any special mementos, such as photographs or personal items if desired. No food or lit candles. Registration is not required. Supplies are limited, first come, first served. This is a walk-in program for adults, ages 18 and up.<br><br></p></div>No418
