She kept her sanity by finding humor in most situations. A mix of these things helped her create The Probation Case Files Mystery Series. Book 1: <em>Obey All Laws</em> won a Public Safety Writer’s Association award and was a finalist for both the Left Coast Crime Lefty Award and the Killer Nashville Silver Falchion Award. Book 2: <em>Early Termination</em>, won the bronze medal for the Public Safety Writer’s Association Award.</span><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></p><p><span data-contrast="auto" lang="EN-US">In her career as a probation officer, she dealt with flirtatious felons who thought they were charmers and addicts who denied the drugs in their pockets, claiming they were wearing their friend’s pants. She often joked about writing a book, and created probation officer Casey Carson, who battles similar situations. </span><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></p><p><span data-contrast="auto" lang="EN-US"> Cindy has a habit of adopting dogs who get into as much mischief as her probationers. A vet told her that Maya, a basic brown miscreant mixed breed was lucky Cindy had taken her home as no one else would have put up with her antics. So why not give Maya her own series. He grew up in the German Democratic Republic under a Communist ruling government. Very early on in his life, he started getting interested in German history, music, and modern information technology. When the Berlin Wall fell on November 9 in 1989, his world radically changed - an event that let him embark on a personal journey to eventually move to Phoenix in Arizona where he lives today. Bernd's move to the United States connects him with Fritz who served many months in an American POW camp in 1945-1946 after WWII ended. In March of 2024, Bernd published worldwide the POW diary called </span><span data-contrast="auto" lang="EN-US"><em>Fritz Häber, The Complete Diary: 16 Months in an American POW Camp</em></span><span data-contrast="auto" lang="EN-US">. Lester, PhD, is Foundation Professor of English and Founding Director of the multiple award-winning Project Humanities initiative at Arizona State University. With expertise in African American literature and culture, Dr. Lester has authored or edited eight books and myriad essays and chapters on topics ranging from the race and gender politics of hair, violence against Black children, rethinking Empathy, Black masculinities, neo-slave narratives, and African American folklore, to Toni Morrison’s children’s books.
