Her first is a whimsical and endearing coming-of-age literary novel based on her native Sri Lanka. </span><span data-contrast="auto" lang="EN-US"><em>A Maiden's Prayer: A Family Story Set</em> in 1970s Sri Lanka</span><span data-contrast="auto" lang="EN-US"> is narrated with wit and warmth by teenager Tamara de Silva, who presents the predicament of her bachelor uncle who is reluctant to marry in the face of family pressure. Her award winning book, <em>Fishy Tales</em>, was also translated by Sonia Soto, <em>Los pececitos aventureros</em>. These two books are about fish that encounter a large trash island while playing in the ocean. It is a great conversation starter about climate change. </p><p>Dear <em>Grandma and Grandpa/Queridos Abuelos</em> is a dual language book, co-authored with Sonia Soto, celebrates the bonds of family, friendship, and unconditional affection.</p><h4>Sonia Soto</h4><p>Sonia Elizabeth Soto is a Bilingual Family Childcare Specialist for the Family, Friend, and Neighbor program of United Way of Pinal County. She has worked in family and child services for more than 20 years, including owning her own in-home preschool.</p><p>Originally from Ciudad Juárez, México, Sonia earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Centro Teresiano de Estudios Superiores before moving to Arizona and obtaining her Early Childhood Education certificate from Central Arizona College. Sonia has two beautiful children and a very supportive and fun husband. As their first child she was directly affected by their experiences and was marked with a special responsibility. Retirement from her career as head administrator in international schools in 6 countries has given her the opportunity to fulfill that responsibility -- to research, document and publish her family’s Holocaust experiences, reflect on their impact on the next generation, share the stories and educate adults and youth at schools, universities and community centers in the U.S.A. and other countries (including Germany and Lithuania). </span></p><p><span data-contrast="auto" lang="EN-US"></span><span data-contrast="auto" lang="EN-US">Ettie serves on the Board of the Phoenix Holocaust Association, serves as a docent at the Arizona Jewish Historical Society Museum and is an interviewer of Holocaust survivors for the USC Shoah Foundation. </span><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span><br></p><div><p><span data-contrast="auto" lang="EN-US">Ettie originally hails from New York but, after world travels, is now living in Arizona with her husband of 51 years.
