Job Description

​Essential Functions

  • Inspire kids of all ages to participate in the Summer Reading Game
  • Assist with children's programs
  • Help staff as needed

Required knowledge, skills and abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Alphabetical and numerical order
  • Basic use of keyboard and mouse
  • Basic Internet and website navigation

Ability to:

  • Show up on time
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions
  • Work well with others
  • Communicate clearly with customers of all ages

FAQs

​Can I volunteer?

  • If you are age 12-17, self-motivated, friendly, fun-loving, and interested in working with the public, then YES! 
  • Volunteers are expected to make a four-week commitment, a minimum of four hours per week.

How do I get started?

  • Fill out the online application (by location, above) and supplemental paperwork located on this page.
  • Teen Summer Volunteer applications will be accepted beginning April 1, 2018. Applications will continue to be accepted through May if space is available.

Will I get training?

  • You are required to attend an Orientation Session.
  • You will receive additional training at your library branch.

What happens next?

  1. The Teen Volunteer Coordinator will review your application and contact you. Please make sure the applications are completely filled out and signed by a parent/guardian.
  2. A limited number of teen volunteer openings are available per branch. Openings will be filled based on the order of when the applications were received. In certain branches, interviews for openings may be required.
  3. You must attend one of the Volunteer Orientation Sessions.
  4. Scheduled are worked out on an individual basis with the library Teen Volunteer Coordinator.
  5. Volunteering begins the week of May 28, 2018 and continues through July 30, 2018.
  6. For any questions, please contact your local library.

​Space is limited. Libraries may not be able to accept all applicants.
Due to its closure, Burton Barr Central Library will not be accepting applications for Summer Teen Volunteers this year.
